Reviews Summary
Users do not generally like the NightOwl Companion app due to frequent technical issues such as connection failures, difficulty uploading data, and problems with the sleep journal feature, though a minority appreciated its ease of use and convenience for at-home sleep studies.
Not a good app for uploading sleep data. I have been using the app for a week while trying to complete a four-day sleep study. The device connects through the app each night, but in the morning, it fails to upload on most occasions. The only way to stop the upload attempts is to remove and reinstall the app, and then redo the sleep study. It is a very easy app to navigate. This is why I have given it two stars. I reached out to NightOwl; I received a basic reply that it could be my connection.
My experience with the NightOwl app has been very frustrating. I very carefully followed the instructions. After much hassle, my NP was informed that not enough information was gather by the app for analysis. There's not enough room to go into everything. I have to do another round with this thing. I can't go to the sleep lab, which would be preferable at this point, but insurance won't cover it unless I've had a stroke in the past year.
The device is fine. However if your internet connection is weak the test will fail. The company as whole is not trained to communicate with non technical people. Like Ismael said the last step in the setup is confusing. It would not be hard to put the record button in a more intuitive place. The gesture to scroll up means something else to my phone which adds to the frustration.
I was supposed to do a 2 night test but was only able to successfully do 1 which was the very first night. On the second night, it failed to record anything. Tried it again on the third night for a second test, it won't connect to the app any longer and the app shows instruction now for an entirely different device. Contacted provider for help and was told to just uninstall/reinstall. Tried but failed everytime. Fourth night same. Fifth night, same. Sixth night, different device, same. I'm done.
Worst apps I have ever seen. First night it acted like it was working and than by the morning I go to click wake up. Mind you the timer is still running so I know the app isn't frozen. It wont click wake up no matter how many times I click it. Closed and reopened app, DELETED. Wait two day until I hear back and all they said to do is uninstall the app and repeat 🙄. Just finished second attempt. I wake up an hour before I was going to get up. It's disconnected itself. Now won't turn on. Trash.
I mean.... I THINK it worked. Followed all the instructions and it seemed to work fine. However, upon waking up, it takes you to the "sleep journal" page and asks you to answer questions about your sleep. But the page is completely blank. Your only options are to go back (which then asks you to do the journal questions again, which takes you to the blank page again) or skip. Guess we'll find out in a couple days if this actually did anything.

Hi, this issue has been fixed. Please update to the latest version of the app. Thanks.
The app gave me an error after the night that said my sensor wasn't on good enough. It had stayed attached securely all night without being too tight. I have no idea how I'm supposed to fix this error tonight because it lookes attached to me. It would be nice if the app informed you of this before the whole night was over. On the plus side, so far the customer service has been great and they are sending me a new device. We will see if my rating goes up.
This is one of the worst most inconvenient devices I've encountered. It took over 3 hrs to install. I had to search for the number to tech support, install the app several times, and the instructions were confusing. You don't know if it's actually working until the next morning and it fails easily. There is no way to find out events as you go, You have to repeat the steps each time it fails. Last night I started a test and this morning it did not record anything. I have to do another night.

Hi Joseph, we have not had this issue reported to us before, and we'd certainly like to work this through for you. Could you share the details at [email protected]? And any relevant screenshots would be immensely valuable. Thank you.
The UX is frustrating because it takes SO many steps to just start, and then the last screen has so much text that the "Start Recording" button is hidden away and there was no indication that I had to scroll down to find and press it... So basically I slept with my finger wrapped up for nothing! I'm so upset I really hope they fire their designer. I'm serious. I suppose is still better than a real sleep test.
The app worked for two nights before glitching out when I connected a physical keyboard to fill out the sleep journal. After that, it refuses to record another night; I can get to the last panel of preparation and tap the button (it even provides visual feedback), but nothing happens. Why did I attach the physical keyboard? Because the app doesn't adapt to the on-screen keyboard, which means that the sleep journal was covered and I couldn't see what I was typing.
