Review Summary
People have mixed feelings about the BetterHelp app: while many users appreciate its convenience, flexible communication options, and professional therapist support, others report technical issues, high costs, and challenges with scheduling and app functionality.
This app worked great for the first day I had it. Now all I get is a notification that says "could not connect to server, please check connection" whenever I open it. inconveniently this started happening RIGHT before my scheduled appointment I already paid for. It's not my phone, every other app works fine. I've tried without wifi, disabling ad blocks, reinstalling it etc and nothing has worked. It's extremely frustrating and disappointing considering I just spent nearly $300 to use this app.

Seems decent. 3 of the therapists i tried in the past were constantly late to the session, and most of the time "had to leave early" so the hour session ended up being 30 or maybe 40 min. Book a session for Monday at 6 and log in at 5:55 to see it's no longer there and you have to rebook a new one now. So really what's the point? This was attempt 4 with this app, and yeah, first session is canceled without any warning or notification, nothing. So maybe rather than being late #4 just doesn'tshow.

Doesn't take insurance, cost per session is higher than a copay, app will often drop calls or not connect at all. BH blames my therapist or myself for being unable to connect. Absolutely ridiculous. I am going to take myself elsewhere, once the month I have paid for is up. Oh yeah, you have to pay a month in advance, and there is no refund if the app doesn't allow your therapist to connect properly or at all. I see that Talkspace now takes insurance. Now that app, I can recommend!!!
App. Looks very interesting and useful for those whose circumstances permit them to be members and enjoy the benefits of the app. Unfortunately, I am not so lucky as to have the resources needed. I did not realize that I had signed up when I could not afford to. My checking account went into negative territory, had to replace debit card, big, big headache.
Transformative Experience with Exceptional Therapist and BetterHelp Navigating personal challenges can be daunting, but my experience with BetterHelp and my therapist has been nothing short of transformative. From the very first session, she demonstrated an exceptional ability to truly listenβoffering not just a space to be heard, but a dialogue that was both insightful and engaging.
It's a great option for those who aren't comfortable talking about their feelings. The options to talk to a therapist are great. I am starting as texting sessions then once in comfy I'll move to phone or video. I feel the therapists they have are very professional and knowledgeable.
I do well with in person therapy. However, I've found live phone sessions very helpful as well. I've found that being able to not have to travel is great, and being in my own environment is a plus as well. My therapist is really helpful in helping me see things I've not done before. I would recommend Betterhelp to anyone.
I enjoy BetterHelp and find it a great app for therapy. The group and private sessions are beneficial. However, as someone on a fixed income and blind, weekly payments are challenging even with financial aid. When a payment fails, my account is immediately inactivated without an extension, even if funds would be available in a few days. It would be helpful to have alternative billing cycles or extensions to avoid canceled sessions. I understand the need for payment, but life happens.
So I do not recommend this app if you are low income. I was considering using Better Help because where I live there are not many options that take my health insurance. You go thru a detailed questionnaire. It was very thorough. But then they get to pricing. I was disappointed to learn they don't take health insurance! They wanted to charge $65 per week regardless if you see a therapist or not. Unacceptable. That's over $200/month. They only offered me 10% financial aid. It's not affordable!
Ive been using this platform/app for over 3 years. I've also been with the same therapist that entire time. Totally worth the $. Monthly subscription includes group/individual therapy, journaling with prompts, worksheets, unlimited communication with your therapists and ways to earn credits. Customer service is very responsive and extremely helpful. Best therapy I've ever had. So worth it!!!
