Review Summary
People generally do not like the Garmin Connect™ app due to frequent issues with updates, poor UI/UX changes, connectivity problems, lack of integration with popular health apps, and various bugs affecting the functionality and accuracy of the app's features.
The app used to be better before an update that happened a bit ago. Now the layout mimics that of Fitbit, which I personally hate. It's drab, it's not conducive for the user and overall was a bad move. I'm hoping Garmin will either fit it in an update, or give users the option to pick how they want their app set up. If not, I'll find another tracker to use
I love the watch but the sleep times could use revamp. Usually people sleep in on days off. But the app doesn't give the option for custom sleep times for those days. At least not for my watch (vivomove sport) I think I've read other models have that option? Which makes even less sense. If you can't sync do not disturb with phone at least give custom sleep times options for every one! Otherwise I keep going back to other watches that don't vibrate when I'm trying to sleep in
Giving one star because it is ridiculous that Garmin doesn't sync with Health Connect or Google Fit or any of the standard Android apps. What's the point of tracking vitals if you can't integrate with your choice of diet, workout tracking, etc. apps. Also, the activity tracking is so dumb. It NEVER recognizes that I'm working out. Further, if I add a workout as a manual activity, it doesn't link with the heart rate data. It should SUGGEST that you worked out. My heart rate was way up! Archaic
Update 1/10 - I uninstalled and reinstalled App and everything appears restored now. Still wish I could adjust sleep goal of 8 hours to personal sleep goal. Submitted enhancement request. Update 1//9 - since the outage yesterday the sleep part of the App does not appear to be fully restored. Missing details for daily sleep (no drop down for details about sleep score - Amount - Fair, REM - Excellent for example) and if you view sleep history- like 7 days, does not show daily sleep score.
I honestly love the app and the interface tons. But I have a huge problem with the fact that you cannot input any custom BMI values UNLESS you purchase and add the Garmin scale they sell. I paid to have a very accurate BMI measurement taken and I have nowhere to input it now. It's not a technology issue, it's the decision they actively made against us.
I haven't had any issues with the app or the watch while using them. I use the watch to mostly track my pace for running to see if I've made any improvements. The battery also holds an amazing charge, I've fallen asleep a few times already with the watch and while you sleep it tracks how long you sleep. I haven't tried to wear the watch so long without charging it that it dies, but it's safe to say it is more than capable to hold charge for two days. (I always charger after 2 days)
REALLY DO NOT LIKE THE NEW LAYOUT. FAIL!!!Not a fan of the new layout in the app. More useless than the previous version which I enjoyed more. App is lacking. What a shame for such an expensive watch (Epix Gen2 Pro) to have a budget app design. Not helpful. Can Garmin stop with the wheel design to enter manual distances!? Still can't stand the maps/route zoom in to show your route. Just go straight to it and stop wasting time. Still needs more data such gradient, pace at given point on activity.
Losing data if phone is not nearby. I had 8k steps, got home and synced watch over Bluetooth it reset my steps to 0. Also giving me some scary resting heart rate numbers, it was telling me it was 42 bpm. When I look at the graph for the day there's not a single measurement below 60 bpm. If I can't get accurate data and store it, I will need to switch to a Samsung or Apple Watch instead. App was great a few years ago but now it's pretty useless.
This latest version has several issues. Somehow, my steps in challenges among my peers for steps are 0 even through I've run 4 miles and had a walk in the last 2 days. Seeing weird challenge titles on the OS version too. Looks like it's the name of the object in code rather than the friendly name for the end-user. Did this version even pass QA testing?
I hate this app even more now. The dashboard is trash. My calories burned today widget dont sync with the workout results in the app. The UI is horrible, and now that the widgets dont work, I am even more looking at other smartwatch platforms and tracking apps. Y'all messed up with the new app format Garmin, big time. As soon as I find a watch and scale and app to replace yours, I am happily gone in a heartbeat... fast.
