Review Summary
Users have mixed reviews about the Komoot app; some praise its route planning, hands-free navigation, and trail finding features, but others criticize unstable performance, poor customer service, and frustrating user interface and navigation issues.
Really great app for self-planned routes. I love being able to set my own route and have the turn by turn navigation guide me through the ride, hands-free. Sharing the route with a riding partner is also great. I set routes for walking using the running function. I do wish there was a separate setting for walking vs. running, but I am content. I haven't been able to use the pre-planned routes yet because there are none in my area, but eventually, I will search those out and explore.
This app has always been touch and go. I thought by paying over $50 for the Premium upgrade I'd get better results. WRONG!!! In fact the outcomes grew worse because I had to cancel rides due to the performance of the app that absolutely sucked. This happened right in the middle of the tours. There are no help or reset buttons in the phone app, so if you're on the road you're stuck. As a YouTube content creator, my audience can witness first hand how frustrating using this app is.

This app used to be incredible at tracking but, between poor directions, rerouting turning itself off and, once you have turned it on, you having to stop and select your route instead of auto-adjusting like it used to I, this app has become bad and needs these basic mapping features back. In a 30 minute run, it misdirected me 12 times. On my last bike ride, it took me 1.5 miles into a field before advising me that it wanted me to keep going straight on the road it told me to turn off.
EDIT: Really glad they updated it to reflect my 2nd line of feedback. Still could use some improvement with my 1st line of feedback, especially with small towns. Two points of feedback for the developers: 1) Make town names visible while zoomed out. They disappear around the 5 mile marker, which is incredibly frustrating when you're comparing two or more towns 50 miles apart. 2) Make road names visible OVER blue planned route markers. Quite annoying not knowing what road you're even on.
Great for finding trails. I keep it running while hiking or biking so I can replay it - seeing your icon move on the map with elevation changes while you slide across the timeline is a fun way to recall what you experienced on the adventure. How useful it is for finding trails depends on your location. The map tools and tracking work with or without a "trail" nearby.
Disappointing to be honest. Good features and did a great job tracking my first hike with little to no cell service. Yet on my second hike it 'lost connection' despite me having 5G service and wouldn't resume the hike for the next 4 hours. The first time it was tracking my movement accurately without any service, and the second time refused to continue tracking once it thought it lost service even though it did just that the day before. Lost over 3/4 of the hike data on the second hike.

Hi Trevor - If the problem persists, please delete the app from your device and download it again. If it is not fixed after that, please contact our customer support so that we can investigate it individually for your device and your komoot account.
absolutely awful app/interface/customer service. I bought the premium to help plan for a multi day backpacking trip. The app will just divide your trip by the number of days. When updating the daily end points to our camp sites it will not start the next day from that point. instead it will just map your trip to double back to where it started you. when I tried to cancel they denied my request because I waited too long. no understand that I couldn't cancel since I had no service camping.
Developer response:
Weโre really sorry to hear about your experience. Our refund policy allows cancellations within 14 days of purchase, but we understand your frustration with the timing due to your trip. If you encounter any issues in the future, please reach out to us as soon as possible, and weโll do our best to assist you.
Super helpful w/ Step by Step navigation, even if you stray off path, rest assured you can find your way back on track. If I had to rely just on map alone, i would have gotten lost multiple times. Other Hiker highlights also great feature. App is well designed & very user friendly & well worth the small price. I can't imagine hiking w/o this now ๐๐โฃ๏ธ
Great app for planning and completing activities, and tracking fitness. a couple of critisms, I find the new route planner a bit awkward as planning mountain or trail routes the app tries to take you on roads (an option for avoiding highway roads where possible for mountain biking, trail and gravel riding would be nice). A section in my profile for favourite routes with planned and completed rather than inputting the same details over and over. Mountain bike features could show directions.
A stated purpose of this app is to plan cycling routes. It showed promise with long pressing points on a map to trace a route i terms of segments. I really thought this app would be great, but no. After I entered a few points, it arbitrarily chose a new way of linking the segments and inserted random changes in direction. I end up with weird loops within loops. It also would not honor my starting point. It did this no matter how tightly I spaced the segments. Julia, it still doesn't work...
Developer response:
Hi Cameron, please send the link to such a planning to our customer support. If you are at the PC don't save the route, just copy the link to the route planner when you are done and point out, which points are wrong. If you plan on the phone, please send us the link to the saved Tour and make it public so we can see it. Best Julia
