Review Summary
People generally do not like My Macros+ app, citing issues such as limited food database, frustrating user interface, ineffective search functionality, numerous bugs, and poor customer support.
The concept is great and when it works correctly, it's fantastic. However, my biggest issue (one that prevents me from recommending the app) is that my favorites are constantly being "un-favorited". I'll be in the middle of creating a recipe and try to add an ingredient from custom and favorites only for it not to be there. Items I use almost daily...eggs, almond milk, egg white, 2% milk, pork, chicken, olive oil, etc. It's very very very frustrating.
Terrible customer support. Had a tough time cancelling the subscription. Their customer service is not helpful. When I was able to finally cancel the app I was already charged $30 for the whole year. Do not see a benefit for paying $30 for a service that I'm not going to use. I don't recommend purchasing this app. Find an alternative.
Not perfect by any means, but it gets the job done with an efficientient enough interface, which can be a little buggy. But what exactly do you expect for free. All those bugs require coders and testers who aren't free at all. I really like the simplicity and has just the handful of things I actually wanted. Very useful. product to price, I would need more stars to properly rate it
The database of food is more or less useless unless everything you eat is prepackaged, branded, and barcoded. Fresh foods are effectively non-existent. The search feature is rudimentary at best, and the UI is confusing and full of bugs. The most frustrating part is that many of the actual useful features are buried behind a subscription service, rather than included in this paid app.
It's a little clumsy to use. The database for food is not very extensive, and sometimes it's not easy to find what is being searched. i.e. couldn't find baked potato, but anything with the word 'baked' popped up. It would be nice if past entries were easier to search, maybe in a calendar format instead of swiping through previous days. It does a nice job with macro and calorie counts.
Could use some work in the search, UX, and data quality department. There are a few quirks, like only being able to scroll down the list of brands (scrolling up closes the panel). Food choices feel rather limited, and not being able to specify units is extremely problematic. Search has a noticable latency, and adding foods will sometimes just... drop them into the aether? I hate to drop my review down, but after a few days of using it I'll be uninstalling and switching back to my old option.
Update... this is still a problem, annoying every day - Sept 2024.β----ββ--------- original review posted 10/23. The last update states that a bug was fixed in the search bar with the backspaces not working properly. (Typing a word in the search bar, if you try to backspace after entering a space the cursor disappears and you have to x-out the whole word and re-type it.) For Android, this bug is still present. I use this app daily and it gets super frustrating.
Love having to pay for upgrades and a subscription to access the features claimed are available to all users after paying for the app initially. A $3 app turns into $20 a month for the features you said were included. Friends circle is beyond repair, I'm afraid. Desperately needs more foods in the database and a more streamlined interface. My Fitness Pal free would be a better option (and that's with the ads lol daaaam)
They don't have normal things like an onion. When you do have to search foods (produce doesn't have a barcode most of the time) other unrelated foods come up in the search. For already logged foods, nutrition amounts are almost never correct. Not to mention serving size on almost all items is set to grams without a way to change it, even for single serve things like a nutrition bar. Useless app. I recommend something else. Will be getting a refund.
Worst health app, especially one that's not free. The list of foods is not extensive. The barcode scanner rarely works and other features are not user friendly. For example, when selecting portion size for a particular food, you can't see the weight units, so I'm not sure if I'm inputting "1" for 1 cup or 1 oz. Free apps like the one with the blue icon even accepts food entries in other languages like Korean. I paid for the app and still won't be using it anymore. Lastly, my workout+ doesn't wo
